(Un)CommonSense Book Lauch

Friends, family, and colleagues poured into the doors of REC Philly on Friday night to celebrate the launch of William Tyrone Toms’ first book, “(Un)Common Sense: Your Strategy Guide To Creative Freedom”. The book is a 10-chapter strategy guide for any person who desires to get paid to do what they love, or in Toms’ words, for the creative entrepreneurs. On May 6th the UnCommon Sense Book Launch hosted roughly 250 attendees, who were invited to pick up a signed copy of the book and enjoy a fireside chat and Q&A with the author, live music, photo booth, and themed cocktails provided by the event’s official sponsors Ciroc and Deleon Tequila.

The event opened with a word from all event partners, Hopeworks, Rock to the Future, Breakout, Accenture, and Black Enterprise, on why they support Toms and the work he’s doing with REC Philly. Then, was followed up by testimonials from a few REC Philly members who got to preview the book early. A live performance by spoken word artist Luis Marrero titled “Dreamers” followed, and the event ended with a 40 minute chat between host Greg Corbin and the author, William Toms. Many questions were asked about Toms’ inspiration for the book, when can we expect a second edition, and the importance of creative ownership. But there was not a dry eye in the room when Toms was asked “why is the book dedicated to your Gmom?” and he responds “because she’s my everything. Without her there would be no me.” (while his Gmom, Corine Toms, was sitting in the front row).

Toms’ goal was to sell 500 copies within q2 of this year, but he is on track to sell almost double that within the first month’s release.
