The #PowerThePollsPA Virtual Concert is spotlighting some of Philadelphia’s most talented Artists in an effort to bring attention to the need & opportunity for the younger generation to apply (& get paid!) to become a poll worker for the upcoming election this November.

Due to COVID-19, the older generation (60+) that typically works the polls will be staying home due to the risk of contracting the virus. Given the circumstances, it’s time for younger individuals to step up to ensure our polling stations are staffed appropriately for a safe election.

To be clear – this is not a volunteer call. The Voter Project is working with election officials across Pennsylvania to recruit 15,000 people just like you to apply to become a poll worker.

This Virtual Concert is a free event, featuring performances from Julian King & Andrea Valle – and hosted by Lyonzo of GLBL VLLG. During this event, you’ll not only enjoy great music from local artists – but you will also learn how YOU can apply for one of these jobs & get paid to become a poll worker this November.

This is a critical moment. America is in the midst of a nationwide poll worker shortage.

Most poll workers are over the age of 60 and, in the era of uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, fewer are signing up for the job.

The consequences have already been felt in several recent primaries, where poll worker shortages led to long lines and voter disenfranchisement. For example, 95% of past poll workers in Anchorage, AK, declined to work the polls this year (source) and the state of Kentucky consolidated in-person voting in each county to a single polling place during the primary due to poll worker recruitment concerns.

Power the Polls will be a part of the solution by addressing the need for low-risk and diverse poll workers who can staff in-person voting locations during early voting and on Election Day.

Andrea Valle is an R&B/Soul singer from Philadelphia who was recently spotlighted on President Obamas’ 2020 annual summer playlist.

Julian King is a Philadelphia native and singer who was recently a finalist on Season 16 of NBC’s The Voice.

The Voter Project is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring all Pennsylvania voters can cast a ballot in a safe, secure, and convenient way.

Power the Polls is a first-of-its-kind initiative to recruit poll workers to ensure a safe, fair election for all voters.
